Introduction: The placement of a double J urethral catheter during the renal transplant procedure decreases the rate of urological complications that may occur after said procedure.
Objective: We sought to analyze the association between complications and the use or not of a double J urethral catheter in patients with renal transplantation in our hospital.
Material and Methods: Observational, retrospective, analytical, and cross-sectional study. Records of patients undergoing renal transplantation were reviewed. Demographic, clinical, and surgical variables were taken into account. Descriptive statistics were applied with measures of central tendency and dispersion, relative frequencies, and absolute frequencies. For the inferential analysis in search of association, Pearson's Chi square was applied, considering a p≤ 0.05 value as significant. The SPSS 24 statistical program for Windows was used and graphs and tables were represented for interpretation.
Results: The average age was 43.154 ± 11.97 SD. Fifty patients were included, 26 of whom were male (52%) and 24 female (48%). A double-J catheter was used in 23 patients (43%), none of whom had urological complications, and of the 27 patients (57%) who did not have such a catheter, 6 of them had some degree of urological complication. Pearson's Chi-square test was applied and significant differences were found with a p value of 0.016.
Conclusion: These data indicate a possible association between the presentation of complications and the use or not of a double-J catheter among patients undergoing renal transplantation.
