Introduction: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is one of the most prevalent otolaryngological
diseases, affecting up to 16% of the population in the U.S. and significantly impacting
quality of life (QOL). Chronic rhinosinusitis with polyps (CRSwP) primarily affects middleaged individuals, and it has been shown that this condition severely affects QOL and sleep. Objective: Evaluate changes in the quality of life of patients with CRSwNP using
the SNOT-22 questionnaire before and after functional endoscopic sinus surgery. Material and Method: An observational and analytical study was conducted involving 66 patients from January 2023 to January 2024. The SNOT-22 questionnaire was utilized
to measure quality of life before and six months after surgery, excluding incomplete records. Results: Preoperative quality of life was rated as good in 54.5% of cases and improved significantly to 97% one month after surgery. The preoperative SNOT-22 score (55 points) decreased to 4 points postoperatively, indicating an average improvement of 51 points. A significant association was observed between disease severity
and improvement in QOL (p=0.028). Conclusion: CRSwP negatively impacts quality of life, but surgery (FESS) proves effective in improving it, with sustainable results at
six months. It is suggested that patients with more severe disease may benefit more
significantly from surgical intervention. Further longitudinal studies are needed to delve
deeper into these findings.
