Introduction: Hip fractures in older adults pose a significant public health challenge
due to their high prevalence, associated morbidity and mortality, and complications in
postoperative recovery. Objective: To determine the effect of the simultaneous presence of multiple risk factors on hip fracture recovery in older adults. Methodology:
Advanced literature searches were conducted in PubMed and Scopus for the period
2014-2024. Search equations were designed using the keywords Hip fracture, Aged,
Comorbidities, and After care, combined with the Boolean operator AND. A total of 246
articles were obtained, of which 196 were discarded because they did not contribute to
the study objective; 50 documents were ultimately included. Results: The coexistence
of multiple adverse factors can worsen perioperative complications, prolong hospital
stays, reduce functionality, and increase mortality. Extrinsic factors, such as environmental conditions and barriers to accessing treatment, were found to be as critical as
intrinsic clinical factors in patient recovery. Conclusions: These findings emphasize
the need for an integrated clinical approach that combines personalized interventions,
complication prevention, and effective rehabilitation strategies to optimize patients’
quality of life and reduce the global burden of the disease.
