Há décadas, os cuidados perinatais e pediátricos têm se baseado em um modelo
focado quase exclusivamente na mãe e na díade mãe-filho. Embora
essa abordagem tenha sido fundamental para melhorar os indicadores de saúde materno-infantil,
ela também contribuiu inadvertidamente para a exclusão sistemática dos pais dos processos de atendimento, apoio e tomada de decisão
relacionados ao nascimento e à primeira infância. Em um contexto em que a
responsabilidade parental compartilhada é reconhecida como um determinante-chave do bem-estar familiar, é
pertinente questionar criticamente esse modelo e repensar a paternidade nos
serviços de saúde.
