Durante décadas, la atención perinatal y pediátrica se ha basado en un modelo
centrado casi exclusivamente en la madre y en la díada madre-hijo. Si bien
este enfoque ha sido fundamental para mejorar los indicadores de salud maternoinfantil,
también ha contribuido, sin quererlo, a la exclusión sistemática de los padres de los procesos de atención, apoyo y toma de decisiones
relacionados con el parto y la primera infancia. En un contexto en el que la
responsabilidad parental compartida se reconoce como un factor determinante del bienestar familiar, resulta
pertinente cuestionar críticamente este modelo y replantearse el papel del padre en los
servicios de salud.
