Objective: To determine the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency, associated with low bone mass, in postmenopausal women, living at the city of Villavicencio, between January 2012 and December 2013. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study. Non-probabilistic sequential bone densitometry was performed and serum concentrations of calcium, vitamin D and parathormone were measured to a sample of 106 postmenopausal women. Results: Mean age 65.9 years (SD = 10.4). The mean levels of vitamin D in women over 60 years was 30.23 ng / ml (SD: 11.6). Only 39.6% of patients had adequate levels of vitamin D, deficiency found in 60.37%. There is a higher proportion of osteoporosis in women who are deficient in Vitamin
D (77.3%), when compared with the group that presents with low (64.3%) and those with normal levels of vitamin D (61.9%). Conclusion: Vitamin D deficiency has a high prevalence in women with low bone mass in the city of Villavicencio, then, it suggested
the need for preventive interventions for women, when they reach perimenopause, that leads to increase the intake of Vitamin D.
