This article shows a perspective from the nursing professional towards the care of the newborn taking the transcultural nursing theory proposed by Madeleine Leininger. For this reason, the different activities of care for the newborn are shown, as well as the inclusion of cultural factors. The professional nursing commitment intends to show aquite considerable and solid vision, in order to focus and individualize each of the care in its immersion with the family without affecting beliefs and/or cultures that may affect the climate of the relationship. It is possible to affirm that it is essential to achieve cul-tural competence in order to provide care that is culturally appropriate to the needs of these women with respect to neonatal care. It is crucial to acquire knowledge through research, apply the findings obtained in the practice of nursing care and thus progress towards transcultural nursing.
