Background: Intussusception is a common disease in children, and is most common in newborns between 6 and 18 months of age. It is rare in newborns and even rarer in premature infants.
Case presentation: We detail the case of a premature newborn with a nonspecific clinical picture characterized by abdominal distension, bilious drainage, and hemodynamic instability. Ultrasound was suggestive of Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC). An exploratory laparotomy was performed, revealing a 10 cm jejuno-jejunal intussusception, which required resection and end-to-end anastomosis.
Conclusion: Intestinal intussusception should be included as a differential diagnosis as a cause of intestinal obstruction in neonates, especially premature ones.
