Introduction: Anatomical variations constitute an area that has been little addressed in the different study plans of careers such as Medicine and Nursing, since they are exclusively associated with medical-surgical specialties, however, their knowledge must be present from clinical suspicion and improve diagnosis and treatment times. In all surgeries there is a 15% risk of complications and even death, associated with ignorance of the different anatomical variations present in humans, making professional performance difficult.
Materials and methods: A review of the topic was carried out using PubMed with keywords and an advanced search equation. 83 articles were returned, of which 48 that did not meet the objective of the study were discarded, finally reviewing 35 documents.
Results: In the cardiovascular, nervous and muscular systems there is a wide range of anatomical variations that are little known or applied in clinical correlation, especially cardiovascular, nervous and muscular.
Discussion: Although not all reports on anatomical variations present a high percentage, it is necessary for the health professional to know and recognize the risks that their presence can cause in the patient.
Conclusions: Despite the few percentages of variability reported in different body systems, its identification from undergraduate careers in the health area is essential, in order to improve the diagnosis-treatment correlation and surgical planning with a reduction in associated complications. due to lack of knowledge of unconventional anatomy
