In modern medical practice, minimally invasive procedures are gaining ground as a diagnostic method for a wide range of conditions. Renal biopsy therefore forms a fundamental part of this arsenal for the investigation of both acute and chronic kidney diseases, as well as malignancies, each with its own well-established criteria.

Although significant advances in technology and the refinement of techniques, with imaging guidance and strict radiological protocols, have led to a reduction in potential complications, the risks—such as vascular injury, haematuria, haematoma, infection and even death—cannot be overlooked. It is for this reason that this article aims to present a case report and a review of the literature regarding the biopsy procedure itself and the management of its complications, illustrating a holistic perspective, with the aim of conveying, in the light of the evidence, the multidisciplinary aspects involved.
