Objective: To describe the level of knowledge among dentists regarding biosafety
in the context of COVID-19 and to identify its relationship with variables of interest. Research
on dental biosafety during the COVID-19 pandemic has been a recurring topic recently and is of particular importance, as it provides guidelines and allows for comparing the behavior of this phenomenon across different centers. Materials and methods: This is a descriptive, cross-sectional observational study
conducted in Cuban dental services in the municipality of Mella, Santiago
de Cuba province, in November 2020. The population consisted of dentists, with a sample of 40 selected. Variables such as professional occupation, years since graduation, and level of knowledge regarding biosafety were studied; these were classified
as adequate, moderately adequate, and inadequate based on the surveys administered.
Results: In the first three items evaluated, an inadequate level of knowledge predominated (50.0% regarding general measures, 47.5% regarding hand hygiene, and 40.0% regarding personal protection); knowledge was moderate regarding
the handling of garments and environmental care, at 50.0% and 75.0%, respectively; furthermore, there were no statistically significant differences between the level of knowledge and professional occupation or years since graduation. Conclusions: the level of knowledge among dental professionals regarding biosafety in the context of COVID-19 is moderately adequate
