students. Materials and methods: Descriptive-crossed study non comparative. A
survey was applied to the study participants. Results: 74% of college women participants
in the study know about the purpose of vaginal cytology that is to detect the
occurrence of cervical cancer; however, 16% of women ignore the purpose of vaginal
cytology and associate it with the detection of infections or other diseases (chi2 = 13,
9429, p = 0,5299). Conclusions: The knowledge of the college women that study
higher nursing from the vaginal cytology is equal to the knowledge that women in the
general population have about this topic.
