Introduction: In the last 45 years the suicide rates has increased 60% around the world. The risk factors identified are: be woman, personal and familiar history of suicide attempt, anxiety, depression, to consume drugs and to present mind disturbance. More than 50% of teenagers suffer mayor depression. The objectives of this study were measure the suicide risk on secondary school pupils in the city of Manizales (Colombia). Establish demographic and epidemiological profile.
Materials and Methods: cross-sectional study, of a probabilistic sample of 339 students of the population studied. Different instruments for measuring suicide risk and associates variables were applied to the sample.
Results: of the people interviewed 56,8% were men and 43,2% were women; 10,2% had a previous suicide attempt, 12,8% had suicide risk and 19,9% shown familiar history of suicide attempt; 5,1% show conflictive relationships with their families and 11,4% severe familiar dysfunction, 16,6% presented anxiety and 2,9% depression; 39,3% were alcohol dependents, 8,8% consume drugs and 15,3% smoke, .
Discussion: it is concluded that have a severe familiar dysfunction, be woman, have a love disappointment, have personal or familiar history of suicide intent, smoke and at the same time to consume drugs or suffer some psychiatric disorder like anxiety and mayor depression increased the suicide risk.
