Objective: To determine the prevalence of hypertensive disorders in pregnant women of all ages during pregnancy attended at some point of the pregnancy, whom have assisted to one or more controls and / or deliverybetween 2006 and 2008 in ASSBASALUD E.S.E., Manizales (Caldas Colombia, South America).
Materials and methods: Cross-sectional study.Demographic, clinical and treatmentcharacteristics were recorded. Results:0.8% of pregnant women with hypertensive disorderswas found. A significant relationship (p = 0.014) between blood pressure and edema was also found; 12.9% of the patients with stage 1 hypertension had edema,in pre-hypertensive and normal
patients this ratio lowers to 3.8% and 3%.Similarly a significant correlation (p = 0.05) between blood pressure level and education was found;as it is observed that among college-educated population pre-hypertension is more often found(63.4%). No significance was found between proteinuria and hypertension.
Conclusions: A relationship was found between the apparition of edema and higher education withelevated blood pressure values. Theprevalence found in the literature (600-100 cases per 10 000 pregnant women) is related to that found in the study (10 cases per 1428 pregnant women).
