Materials and methods: The medical records of the hypertensive patients controlled in the hypertensive program in the clinic of Enea and the medical centre: IPC-Galán, Fátima, Aranjuez and Tablazo, from ASSBASALUD ESE, which are located in Manizales, Caldas, Colombia.
Results: According to the registered data a damage of the white organ was found in 34.12%. In 72.04% an adequate use of medications was found according to the guides to manage hypertension. The most frequently used therapeutic combination was of hydrochlorothiazide with captopril in 8.50% of the assessed medical records. A 34.60% of the registered patients are qualified as per-hypertensive and a 89.6% of the health workers which were interviewed said to know the guides to manage hypertension.
Conclusions: It is remarkable the quantity of patients with damage to the white organ, but it is not known if the damage already existed prior to the enrolment to the program. A 28% of the studied population is not receiving the adequate medication. It is considered as low the fact that only 89% of the health workers say to know the guides to manage hypertension. It is considered favourable that 60.7% presented a decline in the diastolic blood pressure and 56.9% in the systolic.
