Background: Urinary tract infections are the most common complications of pregnancy. They cause serious maternal and perinatal morbidity (preterm delivery, low birth weight and premature rupture of membranes).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cross-sectional study, with a sample of 1429 stories of pregnant women who attended antenatal and childbirth in ASSBASALUD E. S. E. Manizales, Colombia. For this study an instrument, with the chosen variables, for data collection in the period between 2006 and 2010 (Q1) was designed.
Results: Of the 1429 patients studied, 36.1% of pregnant women had IVU; of these 45.9% were detected in the first trimester of gestation, being the most frequent asymptomatic bacteriuria with 9.1%. A 95.1% they not found associated complications, the most used was paraclinical partial urine at a rate of 99.9%. The patients who received antibiotic treatment IVU: synthetic penicillin 47.7% and 75.2% did not require hospitalization.
Conclusion: Considering the results obtained in this study it can be concluded that the infection urinariases one of the diseases that most often complicating pregnancy tracks. Synthetic penicillin is the empirical antibiotic used to treat most urinary tract infections in pregnancy, this has shown resistance in other studies, which means that the population of pregnant women ASSSBASALUD ESE Manizales has a low resistance profile and responds While the established medicine.
