Interoperable Article-Level Metadata Policy

Interoperable Article-Level Metadata Policy

Archivos de Medicina Journal – University of Manizales

The Archivos de Medicina journal recognises that article-level metadata is essential for the identification, retrieval, citation, indexing, preservation and interoperability of published scientific content.

The journal adopts a metadata policy aimed at ensuring the use of standard, interoperable, non-proprietary and reusable formats that facilitate the national and international visibility of its publications. Publindex recommends that journals have an article-level metadata policy that includes the title, authorship, abstract, keywords, English translations of these elements and a persistent identifier such as a DOI, URN or Handle.

Minimum metadata per article

For each published article, the journal records and publishes, as a minimum, the following metadata:

Article title in the original language.
Title in English.
Full names of the authors.
Institutional affiliation of the authors.
Authors’ ORCID identifiers, where available or required.
Abstract in the original language.
Abstract in English.
Keywords in the original language.
Keywords in English.
Document type of the article.
Dates of receipt, acceptance and publication.
Volume, issue, year and pagination or electronic identifier.
DOI or other persistent identifier, where applicable.
Licence of use.
Source of funding and declaration of conflicts of interest, where applicable.
Bibliographic references.
Permanent URL of the article.
Interoperability and metadata exposure

The journal uses the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform for editorial management and the publication of its content. Metadata recorded in OJS may be exposed via interoperable standards and protocols, including Dublin Core, OAI-PMH, DOI/Crossref, XML or XML-JATS, depending on the journal’s technical capabilities.

The journal endeavours to ensure that its metadata can be harvested, indexed, preserved and reused by repositories, indexing and abstracting systems, bibliographic databases, academic search engines, DOI registration agencies and academic discovery services.

Persistent identifiers

The journal promotes the use of persistent identifiers to improve the traceability and citation of its content. Each scientific or academic article may have a DOI or another recognised persistent identifier. Authors are also recommended to use ORCID to ensure the unambiguous identification of authorship.

Quality and updating of metadata

Authors are responsible for providing complete, accurate and up-to-date metadata when submitting their manuscript. The editorial team will check the consistency of the metadata prior to publication and may make standardisation adjustments to titles, author names, affiliations, abstracts, keywords, identifiers, references and other necessary fields.

Where errors are detected after publication, the journal may correct or update the metadata, whilst maintaining editorial traceability where the change affects the identification, citation or indexing of the article.

Preservation and reuse

Metadata form an integral part of the academic record of each article and will be preserved alongside the published content. The journal permits their consultation, harvesting, indexing and reuse by academic systems, provided that the integrity of the record and the corresponding attribution to the authors, the journal and the publishing institution are maintained.
