Cleft and palate is one of the most common congenital malformations, represents 2 - 3 % of these and is considered the most common craniofacial anomaly. Surgical repair
of a patient with a cleft lip is not an emergency. Primary repair of cleft lip is done about 3 months old, consisting of a series of elective surgeries that are performed individualizing
each case as required by the patient. The aim of this review is to address the innovative treatment alternatives that are being
used in patients with cleft lip and palate, as hypodevelopment of occlusion, the diction and the growth of the jaws during childhood, also allowing correct swallowing to ensuregood nutrition. This article reviews the subject with emphasis on dimensional orthopedics, alveolar distraction osteogenesis, plasma rich in growth factors and telescopic crowns.
