Objective: characterize pediatric age patients who attended to Rafael Henao Toro Hospital in the city of Manizales diagnosed on appendicitis. Materials and Methods: The study made is a retrospective transversal cohort realized on the emergency service and hospitalization service in the city of Manizales, Caldas, Colombia with a population of 292 patients with a presumptive diagnosis of acute appendicitis on pediatric age (2-18 years). The study was based on the systematic revision of clinical records since january 2011 to december 2012. This study included patients with open and laparoscopic appendectomy. Results: Frequency of appendicitis was higher on masculine gender (56,5%) in contrast to the feminine gender (43,5%). The average age of presentation is 10,34 ± 3,6 years. The city with most presentation is Manizales (57,5%). The most common clinical signs are umbilical pain (73,6%), right inferior quadrant pain (89,0%) and blumberg sign (73,3%). The most used diagnostic image is Rx (20,6%). Conclusions: The study served to characterize patients in a population never studied before, determine its characteristics and differences whit national and international medical literature.
