Introduction: there are few studies of HIV prevalence in trans people in Colombia.
Objective: to determine the prevalence of HIV in trans people treated in a health service provider institution in Medellín-Colombia. Methods: cross-sectional study with 87
people screened for HIV at the Fundación Antioqueña de Infectología. The diagnosis
of HIV was made by immunochromatography confirmed by Western blot. A survey
was conducted with sociodemographic data, clinical characteristics and sexual risk
factors. HIV prevalence was calculated. Analyzes were done in SPSS 27.0. Results:
HIV prevalence was 2.3%, without finding co-infection with other STIs (laboratory detection of viral hepatitis B and C, and Treponema pallidum). The largest proportion of
the group were young, with little schooling and without health affiliation or subsidized
regime. A high prevalence of risky sexual practices was found in the last month, such
as unprotected sex (94.3%), with key groups (35.5%), under the effect of hallucinogens
(26.4%) and with a new sexual partner (25.3%). Conclusion: HIV prevalence was
much lower than in previous studies, although with a high proportion of sexual risk
practices. This demonstrates the importance of carrying out more studies that show
the panorama of infection in trans people and the need to improve specific education
and prevention programs for this group, historically neglected
