‘Why did this happen in a society such as our own, which is brimming with science and technology?’ The author of the letter ‘Pandemic’, Castaño [1], poses this question – a perfectly valid one, given that one would reasonably expect science to have led us to the greatest good and to maximum control over ‘evil’ phenomena such as the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this has not been the case, and this requires analysis. Indeed, it is impossible not to list the negative consequences of this pandemic; to begin with, I would highlight the point made by the author regarding lockdown measures: “thus dissolving the social fabric, destroying the economy and, ultimately, condemning it to starvation.”
