Objective: Research article from a qualitative perspective, whose purpose is to deepen the impact that perinatal death generates in a couple of parents, and the professional assistance provided. The identified conceptual elements were enriched by an in-depth interview with a young couple who work in the social area, from which the researchers generate reflections of second order as contributions to the construction of knowledge. Materials and methods: The findings of the documentary review, scarce in relation to the subject, were contrasted with an in-depth interview with the parents of a deceased perinatal baby. After that, the researchers contrasted the documentary, testimonial components and generated reflections from a multidimensional and interdisciplinary perspective. Results: In the handling of the case there is little sensitivity on the part of health professionals, inadequate treatment and absence of accompaniment in the situation of grief. Although conceptually there is mobilization in front of the topic by health professionals, especially nurses and doctors, there are considerable gaps that do not encourage accompaniment; the image offered is of little sensitivity to the families that experience the loss. Conclusions: Faults in health care are identified when dealing with this human phenomenon that involves the entire family and health context, which demonstrates the need to implement differentiated protocols that respond appropriately to the needs of these families.
