Currently cardiotoxicity induced by chemotherapy is considered as the “Achilles’ Heel” in the management of patients with cancer, because it strongly affects the quality of life
and survival of patients, regardless of cancer prognosis. The molecular mechanisms of cardiotoxicity depend of the selectivity of the anticancer drugs against the kinases, the cell damage mediated by oxygen free radicals and the induction of immunological reactions. Echocardiography was the diagnostic method of choice for many years, however, the changes appear only when a significant myocardial dysfunction has
occurred, which is why biological markers are emerging as a novel early screening strategy, in order to modulate antineoplastic therapy in a timely manner and prevent the
progression of cardiac toxicity. The aim of this article is to review the state of the art of those biomarkers of cardiotoxicity induced by chemotherapy reported in the literature, in addition to a summary of various cardiotoxic effects, mechanisms of cardiotoxicity and diagnosis methods that have been developed
