In vitro studies for searching intermediates of mitochondrial fatty acid degradation, are a tool for diagnosis of hereditary or adquired alterations of the above mentioned metabolic pathway. The present work analizes the metabolite production in fibroblasts incubated with deuterated oleic acid. Materials and methods: fibroblasts of persons without antecedents of metabolic alterations, were incubated with deuterated oleic acid
and its metabolites were analyzed using gaschromatograpy-mass spectrometry (GCMS).
Results. It was found a characteristic profile after incubation of fibroblats with this substrate. Conclusion: this substrate could be used to perform in vitro studies of somemitochondrial fatty acid β-oxidación deficiencies, by comparison of normal fibroblasts
vs fibroblats of patients who present defiencies of the above named metabolic pathway.
