Since it allows a coherent view of the different dimensions of health from a biological and social perspective. material and methods: a cross-sectional analytical study was carried out through a stratified sampling, where 96 people were effectively surveyed from the 18-hillside zone in Cali. The research was performed through a bivariate analysis using association measures such as Fisher's exact test and the chi-square test. results: It was found that the personal and environmental factors related to the participation of the elderly were civil status, chronic diseases, family relationships and physical barriers of the context which were statistically significant (NS <0.05). conclusions: it is fundamental to create community strategies that encourage the participation of older adults in productive and leisure activities through the formation of social networks and the promotion of social and family support.
