Objective: To determine the consumption and dependence of liquor and cigarettes on workers in the construction sector. Methodology: A cross-sectional quantitative study was carried out on 186 construction workers in Santander, Colombia. Participants answered the Alcohol Use Disorders Inventory Test (AUDIT) and the Fargerstrom test for cigarette smoking. Results: The mean age was 34,8 years. Among the respondents, 62% reported consuming liquor and in the AUDIT score, 71,5% were in zone I, 26,8% in zone II and 1,6% in zone III. Finally, 23% of workers reported being cigarette users and of them, 2.33% (n = 1) had moderate dependence on their consumption. Conclusions: The consumption of liquor (62%) and cigarette (23%) was high in this sector. Although high levels of dependence were not detected, it is important from primary prevention in health to raise awareness about the personal and labor repercussions of alcohol and cigarette abuse.
