Jaime Raúl Duque Quintero

Last decades have brought new diagnostic methods and treatment (TAC, magnetic resonance, etc) that require, especially in children, sedation or analgesia. Even though, sedation is now practiced more securely, thanks to the training and the existence of new drugs, monitoring units and postoperatory care; there are risks that should be avoided at the time of its practice.
The points to look for at the sedation time are: the sedation’s nature (minimum, moderate, deep or general), age, patient’s physical condition, adequate drug selection, equipment’s condition and the cardiorespiratory reanimation drugs. The products Midazolan, Propofol, Fentanyl, Naxolona, Flumazenil and Ketamina should be given in small doses and in a gradual way, taking into account their particular characteristics (advantages and disadvantages)
