The aim of this manuscript is to describe the peculiarities of the health-disease concept according to the principles of social determinants and social determination of health. To this end, the text presents the classics models of health-disease process and theirs limitations that can be overcome from the theoretical perspective of the determination or determinants of health. In addition, some studies related with the epistemological, theoretical, methodological and political differences between social determinants and social determination are summarized. It is concluded that the contents of the text are a useful starting point for students from health areas reflect on the prevailing concepts about health in their practice, particularly the social determination and social determinants as confluence of the clinic, epidemiology and public health.
