Summary

The physiotherapist is the ideal professional, trained and scientifically grounded to prescribe exercise and promote the practice of physical activity. From this perspective, is immersed in a dynamic and changing world, must be prepared and updated to promote the adoption of healthy habits and styles. Therefore, this reflection article seeks to redefine the role of the physiotherapist, analyzing different meanings involved in their professional practice related to these interventions. Literature available in the Pubmed, EBSCO, Scielo and PEDro databases was reviewed, including 111 bibliographic sources for analysis. It was concluded that there are factors such as the multidimensionality of sedentary behavior, the need to ensure quality care, knowing the population and social dynamics, behavioral theories and models, empowering patients/clients and the management of new technologies will allow successful interventions.
