Infant mortality is a marked event of disgrace for families and general society. The tendency of the value «rate of infant mortality» in the city of Manizales shows a significative drop compared to national values that are around 19 for every 1000 born
alive. Some social groups, considering their living conditions, socioeconomical and cultural characteristics, are less favored than others. According to the previous facts there are potentially good chances of reducing infant mortality in these kind of groups.
This 2004 study finds that the mortality decrease in the area of residency was of 38 out of the 57 cases presented.
