  Besides serving as oxygen carriers and electrons are peroxidases which catalyze reactions hemoproteínas where an oxygen atom is transferred almsustrato water and one. The applicability of the above is directly reflected in the human body to be protected from the harmful peroxides by hydroperoxides; "In erythrocytes and other tissues, glutathione peroxidase catalyzes the enzyme destruction H2O2 and lipid hydroperoxides by reduced glutathione, protecting the membrane lipids and hemoglobin against oxidation and peroxides" (1). The accumulation of these compounds (peroxides) causes an imbalance organic relates to the generation of free radicals; this leads to destruction of membranes and possible causes of cancer and atherosclerosis. The benefit of the enzymatic process of peroxidases in this case, is to participate as acceptor electronesen reducing peroxides.
