Delusional parasitosis is a mental health
disorder with a low prevalence but of
great significance for those affected.
It is characterized by a false and fixed
perception of parasitic infestation. It is a
pathology recognized by dermatologists
and parasitology specialists, and treated
by psychologists and psychiatrists. The
limited expertise of professionals from
other clinical disciplines in the area involved is acknowledged. The objective
is to present condensed and up-to-date
information on this disorder useful for
students and professionals in the healthcare sector. Adequate knowledge of this
scourge will allow for early diagnosis
and appropriate management, ruling out
the underlying cause, based on a good
doctor-patient relationship and a clear
determination of the type of delusional
parasitosis
