This research aims to analyze the importance of age as a criterion to identify and classify people, in comparison to other categories. In the first phase, participants (183 young students, 266 adults and 218 old people) had to classify a set of eight pictures of individual people from different age, sexe, expressive psychological characteristics and social characteristics in two groups, according to a personal classifying criterion. Results showed that age and sexe were the most important references used to classify people, and, with less degree, sociological and psychological features. Beyond these coincidences, there are many differences between the age-groups concerning the frequencies of each criterion. The second phase is a complement to the previous one. The objective is to compare the different age groups that the participants themselves distinguish within a series of seven ascending age photos in a child-elder continuum. Here, as well, coincidences and differences between young people, adults and seniors are noted.
