Ethical Guidelines

The publication of a peer-reviewed scientific journal is a collective endeavor that requires all participating actors to rigorously observe ethical standards. This ensures that the circulation of specialized knowledge actively safeguards the rights and dignity of every social actor involved in the research workflow—from human participants providing field data to the final readers, authors, Editorial Board members, and peer reviewers. In accordance with these principles, the journal Tempus Psicológico enforces the following ethical guidelines:

  1. Peer Review Commitment

The journal Tempus Psicológico is fully committed to objective and impartial peer review. The peer-review workflow is coordinated by the Editorial Board and supported by external experts within the relevant discipline who have an active record of scientific publications within the same field of expertise over the past three (3) years. All evaluations are strictly conducted under a double-blind peer-review model; authors remain anonymous to reviewers, and reviewers remain anonymous to authors, thereby ensuring absolute confidentiality throughout the evaluation. Preserving this anonymity and maintaining high quality benchmarks remains a core responsibility of the Editorial Board.

  1. Ethical Commitments of the Editorial Board and Reviewers

Reviewers and Editorial Board members formally undertake to uphold the following standards:

  • Independence: Editorial and reviewer determinations are individual, professional, and strictly non-institutional. Members shall perform their duties independently, without advancing private or particular interests.
  • Confidentiality: Reviewers and board members are bound by strict confidentiality. They must exercise absolute discretion and shall not disclose the origin, content, or review deliberations of any submitted manuscript. Only the Editor-in-Chief is authorized to communicate evaluation outcomes to the authors.
  • Intellectual Property: Members must respect the intellectual property of authors. Under no circumstances shall they distribute, utilize, or transmit manuscripts under review, nor shall they appropriate any research findings contained within them.
  • Conflict of Interest: Reviewers and board members who possess a direct or indirect interest in the acceptance or rejection of a manuscript must declare a conflict of interest and recuse themselves from the evaluation process.
  • Personal Relationships: Members who maintain a personal, academic, or professional relationship with any author must notify the Editorial Board immediately to facilitate an alternate reviewer assignment if necessary.
  1. Ethical Commitment of the Journal
  • Quality Promotion: The journal is committed to publishing work of the highest scientific quality while treating authors and reviewers with professional respect.
  • Desk Rejection: The journal reserves the right to reject any manuscript that fails to meet appropriate scientific quality standards or falls outside the defined scope of the editorial policy.
  • Ethical Infractions: The journal reserves the right to reject submissions if the authors have been found guilty of serious ethical violations (such as discrimination, moral or sexual harassment, plagiarism, or abuse of power) by a national or international ethics committee.
  • Legal and Methodological Compliance: The journal reserves the right to reject any work where the source data were not acquired in compliance with relevant bioethical legislation, regulations, and accepted scientific methodologies.
  • Anonymity Protection: The journal protects and safeguards the confidentiality and anonymity of all peer reviewers.
  1. Rights and Duties of Authors
  • Objective Evaluation: Authors have the right to a fair, objective, and transparent evaluation of their work. Any editorial determination based on reviewer reports shall be comprehensively justified and explained.
  • Originality: Authors must submit original, unpublished manuscripts containing authentic data. If any data or analyses have been previously published elsewhere, this must be explicitly declared upon submission.
  • Bioethical Legislation: Research data must be acquired in strict accordance with the local legislation of the country of origin and standard scientific methodologies. The fundamental rights and consent of all research participants must be strictly respected.
  • Authorship Consensus: All co-authors must have active access to the manuscript and provide explicit consent for submission and subsequent publication prior to its formal presentation.

  1. Rights and Duties of Peer Reviewers
  • Competing Interests: Reviewers must declare any potential conflict of interest (personal, institutional, or professional collaborations within the past 5 years) before accepting an evaluation assignment.
  • Objective Adjudication: Reviewers must provide a clear, objective, and well-argued evaluation report accompanied by constructive feedback.
  • Timeliness: Reviewers agree to comply strictly with the deadlines established by the journal. If a reviewer cannot meet the deadline, they must immediately notify the editorial team to facilitate an extension or reassignment.
  • Anonymity & Certificates: The journal guarantees reviewer anonymity unless a reviewer explicitly requests otherwise. Upon completion, the journal will issue a formal arbitration certificate. Reviewers must be registered on the OJS platform to receive this credential.
