Peer review policy

The first step in the process of accepting an article for peer review is performed by the editor, who confirms that the topic aligns with the journal’s objectives and scope and that the manuscript meets the requirements set forth in the instructions for authors. If necessary, the editor will ask the author to revise and correct the manuscript based on the suggestions provided.

Once the editor accepts the article, it is assigned on a double-blind basis to two external reviewers. The peer reviewers receive the article without any identification of the authors, along with a dynamic Excel template as an attachment for evaluating the document and making notes for the authors and the editor, including the corresponding recommendations: major or minor revisions. In addition, the peer reviewer will receive the EQUATOR Network standard corresponding to the type of article they will be evaluating.

Peer reviewers may reject the article, accept it without revisions, or accept it with major or minor suggestions. This decision will be communicated to the authors. If revisions are required, the article will be returned to the authors for correction.

In the event of a discrepancy between the opinions of the peer reviewers, the matter will be resolved by the final decision of the members of the editorial board or the scientific committee.
