The bond security derived from the process of attachment to the significant person has been associated with the development of psychological well-being when it is adequate and with the risk of presenting some psychopathology when it is altered. Knowing the brain processes typical of attachment development and its subsequent alteration broadens the understanding of the attachment process and its effects on the bonding process in adult life. This study aims to identify recent findings on attachment style and its relationship with brain processes. A systematic review of articles published in 2020, 2021 and 2022 was carried out, 13 studies were selected. It was found that there are variance in the brain anatomy of people according to their attachment style, that both limbic and cortical areas are involved in this process, and that the main neuromodulator is oxytocin. The importance of establishing bridges between studies based on neurosciences and those linked to the understanding of behavior or cognitive processes from clinical practice is evident, in order to broaden and make the theoretical constructions of the attachment process more complex.
