Citation Guidelines

Parameters for Citation

All manuscripts published in the journal Tempus Psicológico must strictly adhere to the citation and referencing standards established by the American Psychological Association (APA), latest edition.

  1. Direct Quotations (Textual Material)

When transcribing the exact words from a prior publication, the text must be formatted based on its word count:

  • Short Quotations (Less than 40 words): Must be enclosed within double quotation marks and integrated directly into the paragraph flow.
  • Long Quotations (40 words or more): Must be formatted as a freestanding block of text, starting on a new line, and indented half an inch (1.27 cm) from the left margin without quotation marks.

At the end of any direct quotation, the author's surname, publication year, and the specific page number(s) must be explicitly indicated.

Example:

"Logistic regression analyses showed that there was a higher likelihood of all suicidal and self-harm behaviors consulted in those who were not heterosexually oriented" (O'Neill, 2018, p. 60).

  1. Indirect Quotations (Paraphrasing)

When referencing the ideas, data, or theoretical concepts of an author without transcribing their exact words, authors must include only the author's surname and the publication year within the in-text citation.

Example:

It is a well-established fact that contemporary Social Sciences are increasingly inclined to analyze the narrative voices and qualitative testimonies of human subjects, recognizing them as authentic social protagonists (Arfuch, 2010).

  1. Reference List Specifications

A comprehensive reference list must be appended at the end of every manuscript, incorporating only the sources cited within the main body of the text. The reference list must fulfill the following technical parameters:

  • Ordering: Entries must be arranged alphabetically by the primary author's surname.
  • Formatting: The section must be titled "References". Each entry must implement a hanging indentation (0.5 inches / 1.27 cm) and be double-spaced.
  • Core Metadata: Journal entries must include author surnames and initials, publication year, article title, journal title (in italics), volume number (in italics), issue number (in parentheses), page range, and the active DOI link.
