La revisión por pares (“peer review”) en las revistas científicas: un proceso que requiere intervención

La revisión por pares o peer review es el proceso más utilizado en el mundo para evaluar la calidad, originalidad, rigurosidad científica y pertinencia, de los artículos en las revistas científicas antes de ser publicados. Pese a sus virtudes, durante varios años este proceso ha sido altamente criticado y continúa presentando problemas que requieren ser resueltos. Este artículo es el resultado de una investigación cualitativa documental en la que se revisaron publicaciones entre 1989 y 2019 sobre los problemas que se denuncian en la literatura sobre este tema. En primer lugar, se describe el proceso y sus virtudes para, luego presentar una síntesis agrupada en diferentes categorías, de las denuncias reportadas en la literatura y, finalmente, abordar las recomendaciones sugeridas. Se pretende que esta revisión sea de utilidad a editores de revistas, pares evaluadores o árbitros, investigadores y a la comunidad académica y científica con el fin de fortalecer este proceso de evaluación.   Palabras clave: revisión por pares, revistas científicas, ética de la investigación, publicación científica
