A descriptive study of the incidence, prevalence and mortality of HIV-AIDS event in the city of Manizales, capital of Caldas in Colombia, bringing together a case series of 805 reported cases from year 1996 to 2009, using official records as sources information, was conducted. The sex ratio in incidence for the whole period is 4.3: 1. This trend is increasing in both sexes. 49.8% of all cases in the period, were identified as HIV +, asymptomatic, in apparent good health. In 2009, this proportion was 78.8%. In order to estimate the degree of concentration in the generation of cases, the Lorenz curve was implemented,
obtaining a Gini index value of -0.14, considered relatively fair. Transmission mechanism is predominantly heterosexual. 33.2% of the cases occurred at ages between 20 and 29 years. The mortality rate for the event in the municipality for 2009 was 9.04 per 100 thousand inhabitants and the estimated prevalence of 0.21% for June 2009.
