Requirements for publishing in the Plumilla Educativa magazine of the University of Manizales
Guide for authors
In general terms, the journal accepts accepted texts that address the following topics in relation to Education: Educational Theories; Education-Technology; Didactic; Education-Subject; Education-Ethics; Esthetic Education; Education-environment; Pedagogy; Curriculum Educational policies; Literature-training; Philosophy-formation; Life-training stories; Adult education; or others of scientific interest that revolve around the educable subject. The texts are classified as:
- Scientific or technological research article. Text that presents, in a detailed manner, the original results of completed research projects. The structure generally used contains four important sections: Introduction, Methodology, Results and Conclusions.
- Reflection article. Document that presents results derived from a finished investigation, from an analytical, interpretative or critical perspective of the author, on a specific topic, using original sources.
- Review article. Text resulting from a completed research where the results of other research, published or not, are analyzed, systematized and integrated on a field of science or technology, in order to account for the advances and development trends. It is characterized by presenting a careful bibliographic review of at least 30 references.
- Short article. Concise text that presents preliminary or partial original results of a scientific or technological research, which usually require an early dissemination.
- Case report. Document that accounts for the results of a study on a particular situation in order to publicize the technical and methodological experiences considered in a specific case. It includes a systematic review of the literature on analogous cases.
- Review of the topic. Text that shows the result of the critical review of the literature on a particular issue.
Conditions of the Articles
The text must be original and unpublished no more than six thousand words with space, includes bibliography and information of the author (s). Before its publication, it will be evaluated by three members of the Scientific-editorial Committee, who will be able to make suggestions for the revision and improvement, in the elaboration of a new version. For the definitive publication of an article, the approval of at least two of them is required.
The document will conform to the following criteria:
- Sending formats: Word or text.
- Arial letter 12, simple line spacing
- Title of the article in bold and lowercase, in Spanish, English and Portuguese.
- Keywords in Spanish and translated into English and Portuguese, 5 maximums.
First and last names of the author (s) with alienation on the left. In Foot of note the following data. Last academic training and where, place of work. Name of the counselor of the thesis, place and date of the investigation, and email.
- Abstract or abstract of the article in Spanish, English and Portuguese, with a maximum length of 150 words.
- Except, the information of the authors, should not have footers, all content must go within the body of the article.
- The length of the text cannot exceed 8,000 words.
- Titles and subtitles are in bold and lowercase.
- Minimum 25. (References are the authors cited within the article)
- Citation rules: APA. In any case, the latest edition of these rules.
Focus and Scope
- The Plumilla Educativa Journal is a publication of the University of Manizales.
- It is a biannual publication -June and December-, however it is of continuous flow, permanent, the accepted articles are being published on the journal's web portal; this, as long as are approve all the steps arranged by the journal.
- It focuses on addressing the problems of contemporary education.
- The journal accepts original research, reflection, review, short, and case study articles, all related to contemporary education at the primary, secondary, and higher education levels, with a focus on texts that address teaching and learning with emerging didactics and professional development. Topics covered include: Theories of Education; Education and Technology; Didactics; Education and the Subject; Education and Ethics; Education and Aesthetics; Education and the Environment; Pedagogy; Curriculum; Educational Policies; Literature and Education; Philosophy and Education; Life Histories and Education; and Adult Education.
- The scope is the educational community in general focused on the teachers who are finally the ones who manage to implement innovative processes in their social academic exercises.
- Articles must be relevant in terms of topic, writing style, structure, and originality.
- Articles that do not address education as stipulated by the journal, will be excluded.
Target Public
The journal is aimed at:
- Researchers in education and social sciences.
- University professors.
- Primary, secondary, and high school teachers.
- University students.
- Students in training programs.
- The educational community in general.
Submission of articles by web platform
- Authors must register and follow the steps that the OJS platform has to do so.
- The text must be original and unpublished no more than eight thousand words with space, includes bibliography and information on the author (s).
- The citation standards are APA, always the latest version.
- The text will be evaluated by the members of the Scientific-Editorial Committee, to send to readers.
- The different processes and stages of the article are informed to the authors by email either until its publication or final rejection as a result of peer evaluations or for not meeting the stipulated scientific requirements.
Commitments of the authors:
- The authors send their articles to the Plumilla Educativa Journal in the Open Journal System (OJS) at the following link: https://revistasum.umanizales.edu.co/ojs/index.php/plumillaeducativa/about/submissions#onlineSubmissions
- After receiving the manuscript, the Journal will send a letter of authorization for publication to the author in which he states that the work is original and that it has not been edited by any other journal. Where I express that:
- That the article is an original work in the sense in which it is derived from investigative work or from an intellectual activity of its own.
- That it has not been published in another Journal.
- That it is not being simultaneously submitted to another publication.
- The texts are their own authorship, no undue copies have been made and each one of the interventions that are not their own have been duly quoted in the document and taken to the bibliography. There is no misappropriation of knowledge developed by other people or institutions.
- The scientific and contrasting rigors that correspond to the different statements presented in the article has been followed.
- The author or authors accept its publication and that therefore, any possibility of financial compensation, in species, or any other type, is excluded for the publication and distribution of this document in the academic portals of the Plumilla Educativa Journal.
- The letter is signed, with full names and surnames, identity document, date of birth, country and databases, if any, where your publications such as Google Scholar citation, ORCID or scientific programs.
Plagiarism Policy
- The anti-plagiarism policies correspond to a permanent look at the Revista Plumilla Educativa
- Using the Turnitin software or other software available for these searches, it will be verified that the article does not correspond to plagiarism in other documents already published.
- We also rely on other anti-plagiarism programs such as CopySpider, Plagium and others that are emerging
- Any irregularity in this regard implies the return of the article and the refusal to continue processes for evaluation and subsequent publication.
- The article must report if AI was used, at what times and the level of AI involvement in the production of the article.
Peer Review Process
- The editorial coordination of Plumilla Educativa Journal makes a plural and extensive call for the presentation of articles, from which those who participate can send it at any time.
- Received an article, the editorial coordination of Plumilla Educativa informs the author or authors of the reception.
- A review is made by the editor if it applies to the conditions, approaches, scope set forth by the journal and if it meets the minimum conditions to continue the process.
- The article is reviewed if it has not been previously published supported by the software Turnitin, CopySpider, Plagium or other software available for these searches. Once this is done, it is adjusted to be sent to two reading pairs, the title of the article is left without information from the authors.
- The evaluators are chosen carefully according to their discipline and specific knowledge required by the document presented.
- The peer reviewers of the journal are external to the university of Manizales.
- The evaluation process is double blind. Each article has at least two peer evaluations, as already stated, in the double-blind condition.

Timeframes from Submission to Acceptance and Publication
Once the article is received on the portal, the estimated timeframe is 150 days, provided the submission criteria are met.
- Submission and initial decision: 10 days
- Submission for peer review: 70 days
- Author reviews: 60 days
- Acceptance and publication: 10 days
The processes during this time are as follows:
- Communicate to the author or authors the acceptance of the article and initiate the processing of the text for its publication.
- In case of rejection, the author or authors are informed of the criteria set forth by the peer evaluators -double blind- who do not allow the publication of the article.
- When the peer evaluators -double blind- give the concept that an article can be published, however, it is necessary to adapt it, the coordination sends the format to the author without the data of the evaluator so that the appropriate adjustments are made.
- If the article is accepted after the adjustments, the author or authors sign a letter of assignment of rights to the journal to allow its publication, where also, That the article is an original work in the sense in which it is derived from work investigative or of an own intellectual activity; that the bibliographic sources have been contrasted so as not to fall into false information that usually circulates in social networks and internet pages, among others.
- Whatever the decision, the final results of the evaluation process will be unappealable.
- Between the presentation of the article, evaluation, corrections and publication, the journal has at least 150 days.
Declaration of Conflict of Interest
In compliance with the requirements for the publication of articles in the Plumilla Educativa Journal, authors are required to report any potential conflicts of interest related to the research work, preferably as an author’s note in the manuscript.
According to APA standards, possible sources of bias include actions by authors involved in the research that are related to the receipt of salaries, consulting fees, or research grants directly connected to the products or services studied in the investigation. Possible sources of bias also include authors holding copyright ownership and/or receiving royalties from a product or service used or addressed in the study, as well as any relationship between the authors and an entity or person involved in the development of the research.

Best Editorial Practices
The Plumilla Educativa Journal, in its commitment to continuous improvement, adheres to international standards for scientific publication. Therefore, it follows the guidelines of the Second International Conference on Research Integrity, held in Singapore from July 22 to 24, 2010.

Editor Responsibilities
• Editors are responsible for the article selection and publication process.
• Editors must be impartial in the selection of peer reviewers.
• Editors must adopt editorial policies that promote transparency.
• Editors are committed to keeping authors informed of the selection process and the results of the reviews.
• Editors must protect the integrity of the documents and make any necessary corrections and retractions.
• Editors are committed to promoting good editorial practices.
• Editors must provide reviewers and authors with all the information they need to perform their work successfully.
• Editors must have clear procedures for resolving conflicts of interest.
• Editors must verify the authorship of articles and reject those that contain plagiarism, citation manipulation, data fabrication, or any other malpractice.
• Editors are committed to promoting the exchange of ideas, respect for opinions, and guaranteeing freedom of opinion and expression during the processes of submission, selection, evaluation, and publication of their content.
• Editors must ensure that submissions do not contain false or defamatory information against an individual or group of individuals or organizations. Any such statements must be reported to the University's Legal Office for verification.
Author Responsibilities:
· Research must be conducted in accordance with ethical standards and current regulations governing the responsible use of copyright.
· Researchers must present their results clearly, honestly, and without falsification or inappropriate manipulation of data.
· Researchers must comply with the journal's publication requirements, guaranteeing originality, ensuring that the work is not published simultaneously in other media, and avoiding plagiarism or other unethical practices.
· Authors must assume responsibility for the results presented and published.
· Authorship must accurately reflect the contributions of all parties involved.
· Funding sources and relevant conflicts of interest must be disclosed in the first footnote of the document.
Responsibilities of the reviewers
- Conduct a rigorous evaluation process, in accordance with the latest advances in the field of the article.
- Use the format and procedure defined by the journal for this task. The procedure includes the possibility of requesting modifications to form and content from the authors initially. Based on the adjustments made by the authors, the reviewer may accept or reject the article definitively, but may not request further adjustments.

Functions of the director-editor of the Journal
- Ensure the academic quality of the journal.
- Chair and guide the Scientific / Editorial Committee.
- Cite ordinary and extraordinary Scientific / Editorial meetings.
- Propose possible members of the Scientific / Editorial Committee.
- Propose and assign national and international peer reviewers for the articles received and accepted.
- Take a preliminary look at the received articles, verify the conditions and process for their evaluation or return to the authors.
Functions of the scientific / editorial committee
- Arrange the logistics of the publication and contact with the Publications Center of the University of Manizales.
- Send the author or authors a statement, via email, about the reception.
- Make a previous review of the article and verify if it meets the minimum conditions to be accepted.
- Send the article received to peer readers with a format that diligently where you must put your verdict at the end.
- Refer to the columnists, acceptance or rejection, according to the concept of the evaluator.
- If accepted, send the author or authors a statement, via email, requesting the adjustments and signing the letter of assignment of rights and permission to publish it in the Plumilla Educativa Journal.
- Make the journal visible worldwide databases for the circulation of knowledge to readers in academic networks.
- Contact recognized academics of the national and international order to publish their texts inPlumilla Educativa.

- Plumilla Educativa authorizes the photocopying of articles and texts for purposes of academic or internal use of the institutions. Access is free, it does not generate costs for readers, authors or institutions that wish to have the journal in their databases.

- The Plumilla Educativa journal, Manizales University, is freely accessible and can be downloaded through the Open Journal System (OJS) platform in PDF, HTML or e-pub formats.

Diamond Open Access Policy
The Plumilla Educativa journal embraces scientific and humanistic knowledge as a common good at the service of society. In accordance with this principle, the journal adopts a diamond open access policy, aimed at guaranteeing the free, open, and universal circulation of published content, at no cost to authors or those who consult the articles.
The journal believes that academic production, especially in the fields of psychology and the humanities, should contribute to strengthening scientific dialogue, critical reflection, and the collective construction of knowledge, promoting equitable access to research without economic, institutional, or geographical barriers.
Under this diamond open access model, the journal does not charge fees for submission, processing, evaluation, or publication of articles. Likewise, all published content is freely and immediately available for reading, downloading, consultation, distribution, and academic use, always respecting the principles of citation, attribution, and intellectual integrity.
The journal promotes open, ethical, and socially engaged science, understanding that access to knowledge is fundamental for the academic, cultural, and human development of communities. For this reason, it seeks to strengthen inclusive editorial processes that encourage the participation of researchers from diverse institutional, social, and geographic backgrounds.
Published articles can be accessed without restriction through the journal's official website and the databases and indexes in which the publication is indexed. The journal also promotes the responsible academic circulation of its content through institutional repositories, digital libraries, and other scientific dissemination channels that respect the corresponding terms of use and attribution.
Plumilla Educativa understands open access not only as an editorial policy but also as an ethical stance toward knowledge and its social function. Publication fee waivers
- The submission, review and publication of articles is free, does not generate any economic cost for the authors, peer reviews and the entire publication process is assumed by the journal without implying any monetary expense for the authors.
- Plumilla Educativa authorizes the photocopy of articles and texts for purposes of academic or internal use of the institutions. Access is free, it does not generate costs for readers or institutions that wish to have the journal in their databases.
Archiving and autoarchiving policy
- The Plumilla Educativa Journal uses the LOCKSS system (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) that allows to make copies and manage a file system distributed among the different collaborating libraries, which can create copies of permanent files for conservation, distribution and restoration purposes.
- The Journal has the OJS portal to facilitate access to readers, publishers and institutions, has articles in PDF, HTML and e-pub formats
- The articles published in Plumilla Educativa Journal are protected by Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).
Repository Policy
- The entire history and repository of each article's process is stored on the OJS platform. This platform hosts and records the entire process of an article, from its submission, rejection or acceptance, and evaluation to its final publication.
- The articles published in Plumilla educativa can be used in the different university repositories.
- There is the Institutional Repository RiDUM is a digital content platform, through which a set of scientific and academic information services created, maintained and accredited by the University of Manizales is offered.
- The journal is included in other repositories such as DIALNET, MIAR, WorldCat, DRJI, BASE, Latindex, LatinREV, Publindex and other databases and indexing that make the journal visible.

Ethical-legal responsibilities
- The editorial team of Plumilla Educativa is responsible for the editorial policies. It is also responsible for editorial standards and compliance with these in each publication. It will publish corrections on errata, clarifications, and rectifications, if necessary, in the digital version of the Journal.
- The editorial team is responsible for the entire process of the submitted manuscripts, as well as for maintaining the confidentiality of the manuscripts in the peer review process until publication and when the manuscripts are withdrawn or rejected.
- When an issue is published, the editor must be in charge of disseminating and distributing the issue among the people and institutions with which it has acquired an exchange commitment and with the authors of the articles.
- Guarantee the transparency of the contributions and the evaluation and publication processes. Five is the maximum number of authors allowed.
- Guarantee objective dialogue and confidentiality of the parties involved in the editorial process.
- Respond quickly and respectfully to questions and notices.
- Guarantee compliance with international standards of ethics, research and publication in all scientific and editorial processes related to the journal.
- The Code of Ethics accepted by the journal is COPE. https://publicationethics.org
- Guarantee that 70% of the articles are external to the university and that 30%, if submitted to the call, is allowed for authors from the University of Manizales.
Copyright
- The texts that will be presented in the Plumilla Educativa Journal must be original and unpublished, they cannot be in another publication process, in compilations or in any other type of publication.
- Once the article is approved, the authors will sign a letter, format established by the Plumilla Journal where they authorize its publication.
- The authors retain the rights to their publication, but the journal has the authorization to place them on any academic platform.
- Under no circumstances may authors request remuneration for their texts, since the publication and submission process is free and the articles are used only for academic interests.
- Plumilla Educativa Journal uses the LOCKSS system (Many copies keep things safe).
- Articles published in Plumilla Educativa from Universidad de Manizales are protected by the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).
