Este estudio tiene como objetivo hacer una revisión bibliométrica y de la literatura sobre el papel de los stakeholders en la sostenibilidad de las pequeñas y medianas empresas. Basado en un análisis bibliométrico de 1258 documentos del tema de “Stakeholders y Pyme” en la base de datos Scopus® y VOSviewer®, para el periodo 1994-2020, se examinaron los siguientes ítems: resultados generales, tipos de documentos, autores más citados, los países que más publican, documentos publicados cada año, áreas temáticas donde se publica, y las principales revistas de publicación. Este análisis proporciona diferentes clasificaciones en términos de contribuciones al desarrollo temático en la literatura que tiene que ver con el rol de los stakeholders en la sostenibilidad de las pequeñas y medianas empresas. Los resultados del análisis pueden ser utilizados para mejorar la comprensión de la investigación y el desarrollo de estudios en el área, y particularmente, en su sostenibilidad, así como el rol que juegan los stakeholders en ésta. Este estudio, además, concluye que son casi nulas las investigaciones que consideran esta metodología para la relación de la temática. Por su parte, el mayor desafío se relaciona con la necesidad de que se tengan en cuenta las expectativas de los stakeholders para la sostenibilidad de las pequeñas y medianas empresas, ya esto incentiva el desempeño y crecimiento de este tipo de organizaciones en el largo plazo, lo que se relaciona con la sostenibilidad.
