Environmental certifications such as ISO 14001 are proposed as instruments that generate evidence of a change in the practices of companies and organizations that seek to reduce negative environmental impacts and therefore improve their environmental, business and commercial performance, to achieve this certification companies they will have to face some obstacles of the financial order considering this a disadvantage for some SMEs. The purpose of this article is to show some fundamental elements prior to, during and after ISO 14001 certification, which motivate and promote its adoption by companies. This through the review of the literature, for which a network analysis supported by bibliometric techniques is carried out, reaching the identification of four clusters, which contain authors, characteristics and common elements of the NTC ISO 14001 and its certification. This article is based on the Web of science query and is classified using the Mendeley tool, having common elements as criteria for this classification and thus giving way to the analysis of co-citations. As a result of this, it was possible to infer the importance for companies and organizations to  for certification as an environmental management instrument, I feel it is recognized by different authors who express their interest in the NTC ISO 14001 as a differentiating factor in the markets and in the commercial and business dynamics.
