The research on the issue of governance has had an important boom since 2012 and the second in research on socio-ecosystems (SES) has come significantly since 2016. In this sense, this review has as to analyze research trends on categories, governance and socio-ecosystems, to suggest some paths for new research. Methodologically, a review was carried out through the databases Scopus, WoS and PoP, in which a systematic search was made of the categories Governance and SES between 2004 and 2018. The search yielded 72 articles by Scopus, 59 by WoS and 133 of PoP, of which the most relevant one was chosen to make the review. As a result, it was found that, although the publications of the categories were combined with others, they have increased since 2014. The review highlights the relevance of the new research relationships of governance in SES; for example, water, tourism, cities, forests, among others.
