Comedies and Proverbs (Comédies et Proverbes) is the title under which Éric Rohmer brings together a series of films in which the French director explores love and relationships. In this text, my interest lies in elucidating and characterizing what Rohmer has achieved with the five films collected under that title and connecting that same work with other different cinematographic proposals dedicated to exploring the couple and its attractive mysteries. In the stories of the French writer and filmmaker, we can perceive the repercussions of the social changes that took place in the second half of the twentieth century and the way in which they affected human relationships, the ideas of couples and roles in today's world. Therefore, not only his influence is of unquestionable importance, but also his anticipation of many of the ways of relating to each other that are seen, keeping proportions and particular elements, in the twenty-first century.
