Lúmina adopts the Crossmark initiative by Crossref in order to preserve the integrity, transparency, and traceability of the scientific record. In this way, readers are able to verify whether the document they are consulting corresponds to the current version of the article and to determine whether it has been subject to correction, retraction, editorial expression of concern, update, or any other change after publication. Crossmark enables the standardized identification of the current status of academic content, as well as its linkage to editorial notices.
The journal is guided by the principle that the original version of a published article should not be silently modified. If, after publication, errors, substantiated doubts regarding the reliability of the content, ethical concerns, authorship disputes, duplicate publication, plagiarism, data manipulation, or any other circumstance compromising the scientific validity or editorial integrity are identified, the journal will issue the corresponding notice and formally link it to the article. This approach is consistent with the recommendations of Crossref, COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), and standardized editorial practices for scientific journals. The journal is committed to registering all post-publication updates in the metadata deposited with Crossref, thereby ensuring complete traceability of the article’s editorial history.
This policy applies to all content published by Lúmina that has a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) and is published in PDF and HTML versions, in accordance with Crossref technical guidelines. This includes scientific and technological research articles, reflection articles, case reports, letters to the editor, and other academic documents included in the journal’s editorial platform. Each published item will incorporate the Crossmark identifier.
A correction will be issued when an article contains significant errors attributable to either the journal or the authors that, although they do not affect the main results, require amendment to ensure the accuracy, clarity, or integrity of the scientific record. This includes errors in author names, affiliations, tables, figures, captions, specific data, references, or textual elements that may lead to confusion. In accordance with COPE guidelines, the journal will correct identified errors in published articles when they affect the clarity, precision, interpretation, or reliability of the content, in order to preserve the integrity of the academic record (Committee on Publication Ethics [COPE], 2025).
An addendum will be published when relevant information needs to be added for the proper understanding of the article, even if no error exists. The addendum will be linked to the original article and will have its own identifier.
The journal may publish an expression of concern when there are serious indications of methodological, ethical, data integrity, or authorship problems, but the editorial or institutional investigation has not yet concluded. This measure serves as a temporary mechanism of editorial transparency.
An article will be retracted when its findings, results, or conclusions are unreliable due to serious error or misconduct; when there is evidence of falsification, fabrication, or improper manipulation of data; when plagiarism in any of its forms or duplicate publication is confirmed; when the study was conducted without approval from an ethics committee, if such approval was required; or when other circumstances render the work unsuitable to remain as a reliable part of the scientific record. Retraction aims to correct the literature and alert readers, not to punish authors. In such cases, the journal will follow COPE recommendations and the best practices established in scholarly publishing.
Complete removal of the text will only be considered under extraordinary circumstances, such as a court order, serious violation of privacy, defamatory content, clear risk, or illegal dissemination of information. In such cases, the journal will maintain a visible bibliographic record explaining the editorial reason for the removal.
All post-publication updates will adhere to the following principles:
When the journal receives notification of a possible issue in a published article, the editorial team will conduct a preliminary assessment. If deemed necessary, additional information will be requested from the authors, reviewers, affiliated institution, or any other relevant party. Decision-making will follow COPE guidelines. After analysis, the editorial committee will determine whether a correction, content addition, expression of concern, retraction, or another editorial measure is necessary.
Editorial notices will be published as independent documents, with an explicit title, date, identification of the affected article, and a clear justification for the decision. These notices will have their own DOI and will be indexed and linked to the original article.
Once an article has been corrected, retracted, or made subject to an expression of concern, the Crossmark emblem will allow readers to verify the current status of the content and access related notices.
Minor corrections that do not affect the understanding, interpretation, or citation of the work may be resolved by the journal without issuing a formal notice, provided that they do not alter the scientific meaning of the document.
Authors are obligated to inform the journal if they identify relevant errors or ethical issues in their article after publication. Editors will evaluate all notifications received, safeguard the integrity of the academic record, and act impartially, diligently, and transparently.
This policy shall be interpreted in conjunction with Lúmina’s policies on editorial ethics, retractions, corrections, conflicts of interest, scientific integrity, and complaint management. In case of doubt, the principles of scientific record integrity, COPE recommendations, and Crossref/Crossmark technical guidelines shall prevail.
