This editorial describes the important role of theory in research, since theory provides the frameworks and structure for inquiry. It also guides the design and interpretation of empirical and experimental studies and creates scenarios that allow researchers to understand and explain research results and findings. The text addresses the role of theory in research by distinguishing key concepts such as theoretical framework, conceptual framework, research background, and state of the art. It describes the function of theory and previous studies in research and highlights the importance of the theoretical framework within the research process.
