Business diversification has been a relevant topic as an option of competitive advantage in the literature. It can be the result of innovation in companies. The objective of this paper is to analyze business diversification and innovation in the management sciences literature, and to describe future research opportunities. In this paper, a bibliometrics was conducted in the Web of Science platform (WOS), identifying 967 research papers on diversification and innovation from 1982 to 2018, indexed in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR). Results show a strong relationship in the evolution of concepts, authors with higher productivity, journals with more articles, and the visualization of emerging topics. Our conclusion is that business diversification remains a recurrent topic for science through the implementation of business innovation in a competitive environment.
