Social Imaginaries, Physical Violence and the Audiovisual Media

Imaginarios sociales, violencia física y medios de comunicación audiovisual

In the framework of documentary-qualitative research, this article shows the exploration of the phenomenon of television violence in Colombia, particularly in news spaces. The interest was to relate three basic categories: media, physical violence and imaginary social activities in the background of the armed conflict that has plagued the country in recent
decades, with the worsening of the phenomenon of illegal groups. A state of the art is constructed
from of the investigative production in circulation between the years 2010-2019, which makes it clear
how the phenomenon of television violence is directly articulated to the forms of construction of realities of audiences and how audiovisual media are positioned as one of the communicative mediations to weave social meanings and contribute to the process of naturalization of representations about physical violence.
