Social Imaginaries, Physical Violence and the Audiovisual Media

Imaginarios sociales, violencia física y medios de comunicación audiovisual

Within the framework of documentary-qualitative research, this article explores the phenomenon of television violence in Colombia, particularly in news programs. The interest was to relate three basic categories: media, physical violence and social imaginaries in the background of the armed conflict that has plagued the country in recent decades, with the resurgence of the phenomenon of illegal armed groups. A state of the question is constructed from the research production in circulation between the years 2010-2019, which makes clear how the phenomenon of television violence is directly articulated to the forms of construction of realities of the public and how the audiovisual media are positioned as one of the communicative mediations to interweave social
meanings and contribute to the process of naturalization of the representations of physical violence.
