The article analyzes the chapter The Waldo Moment of the popular British Netflix Black Mirror series, under the pretext of critically reviewing the rela- tionship between digital media and public opinion. Through a discourse analy- sis, guided by the notion of Laclau’s empty signifier, aspects of the plot are reviewed that reveal how the current public sphere is emotionally mobilized thanks to the narrative use of irreverent irony and humor, which manage the outrage as behavior symptomatic policy of the current global political moment.
